Herculaneum is much smaller but better preserved than Pompeii. While Pompeii was covered in 4 to 5 meters of ash, an avalanche of mud 20 meters thick buried Herculaneum. Second storeys, carbonized wooden objects, intact paintings and mosaics are still fully visible. The city comes back to life with your guide’s explanations.

This tour consists of a pleasant walk around the ancient Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, buried by the ashes of the volcano Vesuvius in 79 a. D.

Itinerary

- Meet the guide at the main entrance of Pompeii ruins site called "Porta Marina Superiore". The guide will be holding a sign with our company's name "Askos Tours" on the top.

- You'll visit the Western part of the town, where the most important public buildings, homes and shops are located. Highlights: the Marina Gate, the Basilica, the Forum, the baths, the Lupanar (brothel) etc.
- Lunch break

- Transfer to Herculaneum by Circumvesuviana train (20 minutes trip) and visit the site: Marina gate, terrace of Marcus Nonius Balbus, Samnite house, thermal baths, Forum, House of Neptune and Amphitrite, Gymnasium etc.

- The archaeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum are closed on the 1st January and 25th December
- It is forbidden to introduce inside the excavations handbags, backpacks, luggage, cases, larger than 30x30x15 cm
- If you choose to add the transportation service, the pick up times are 8.45 AM at Naples Terminal Cruise and 9.15 AM at Naples Central Station (platform 24)
