Greek temples and fresh and natural mozzarella: best examples of ancient art and organic food – what can be more rewarding and relaxing than that?
This tour will let you see the splendid combination of natural delicacies of Campania and greek architecture.
At first, you will be taken to a buffalo farm, where delicious soft mozzarella cheese is made of fresh milk. This journey will include visiting the stables, looking at the process of cheese production and unique opportunity to try fresh mozzarella.
Then you’ll travel to the ancient site of Paestum, former greek colony Posidonia, which boasts three greek temples in almost perfect condition. Their names are Temple of Neptune, Temple of Ceres and Basilica and they are no less fabulous than the Parthenon itself! To enjoy these man-made beauties we’ll take a walk inside the archaeological area. There you’ll also see city walls, comitium (political assembly place), amphitheater, temple of the good mind (mens bona), living quarters and much more.
At last you’ll go into the National Archaeological Museum of Paestum, which has a rich collection of local greek art from the VII century BC up to the VII century AD. Among other things you’ll see the real masterpiece, the Tomb of the Diver frescoes. At the end of the day you will have a lunch in one of the best local restaurants with specialties of the area.
Return transfer to the pick-up place will be done via Salerno.
Why embark on this tour?
First, things you’ll see in the archaeological area are unparalleled, because you will nowhere else find such tall and elegant greek temples in such good condition. Moreover, they are in perfect harmony with the landscape, and this was known already to the famous Grand Tour travellers, who made the last stop in Paestum.
In the ancient times Paestum was the biggest rose gardening centre in Italy. Nowadays there are some oleander bushes which are as colourful as roses. Come to the romantic and ancient land where Venus herself would have felt at home! The undisputed highlight of the museum in Paestum are the frescoes of the “Tomb of the Diver”. They depict a man reuniting with the Ocean as a symbol of after-life, and his companions feasting in his honour. This is the only preserved greek tomb from this time (more than 400 B.C.) with painted figures of people.
Second, you’ll get the chance to become an eco-tourist and taste the world-famous gastronomical treasures of Italy: mozzarella and ricotta cheese, and also all kinds of desserts made of fresh milk: ice-creams, puddings and yogurts. Mozzarella is called “the pearl of the Mediterranean”, and Cilento national park around Paestum is the best place to try it. It’s not possible to taste a better mozzarella than to come to an organic eco-friendly farm and eat cheese made just seconds ago in front of you.
So don’t hesitate and book this unique tour for lovers of both ancient art and eco-tourism.
